Individualized Therapy

Keeping my caseload and my practice small means more time and energy can be spent on treatment plans, activities as well as following up with you and other professionals. In-home therapy allows me to provide customized, functional strategies and to plan activities that work for your home environment, routine and family.

Family Education and Participation

I welcome you to be a part of your child’s session if you’d like when therapy is in the home. If therapy takes place at your child’s school, I will touch base via text or email regularly. I will provide many resources via handouts, websites and names of other professionals in the area as appropriate. The last 5-10 minutes of every session will be utilized to go over progress and practical strategies for you to use with your child until our next session.

Child-led Therapy

I believe in a child-led therapy approach. Young children learn best when they are engaged and having fun. I often use play in my therapy to target your child’s speech and language goals. If appropriate for your child, we may sit at a table and play a game or complete an activity together. Either way, I strive to make therapy fun and enjoyable and to incorporate your child’s interests into our sessions.

What I treat

  • Articulation and Phonological disorders (speech sounds). A child may have trouble using certain sounds which can make it difficult for them to be understood or make them self-conscious about their speech. I use traditional speech therapy methods and I am PROMPT Level 1 trained as well.

  • Receptive Language (Understanding others: following instructions, answering questions, following conversations). A child may not understand certain types of questions or language concepts. They may seem confused or do not respond appropriately to what others say.

  • Expressive Language (Vocabulary, word forms, sentence forms). A child may use no or a limited amount of words. They may not use phrases or correct grammar for their age. Sometimes what a child says does not make sense to others.

  • Gestalt Language Processing. Some children learn language in “chunks” (aka: delayed echolalia). Children who are gestalt language processors may require an alternative language therapy approach known as Natural Language Acquisition. I am Natural Language Acquisition (NLA)-Trained via Meaningful Speech.

Where I go

I provide therapy in homes or at your child’s daycare or private school (when allowed by daycare facility or school). Unfortunately, therapy within public schools is not allowed.

Areas: Northwest Austin, Cedar Park, and parts of Leander and Round Rock.*

*Therapy outside of these areas is up to my discretion and may include additional travel fee. Please inquire.

About Me

Lindsey Williams, M.S., CCC-SLP, speech therapist and owner

I received my undergraduate degree in Spanish at the University of Georgia in 2005 and completed my Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology at Boston University in 2011. Between finishing my undergraduate and graduate studies, I spent three years living in Madrid, Spain where I met my husband. We have 2 daughters (8 years old and 5 years old) and a new puppy!

I love being a mom and being a speech therapist. Being a mom makes me a better therapist and being a speech therapist makes me a better mom! But after trying to “juggle it all,” I decided to open my own practice in order to better prioritize my time and efforts for my family and for my clients. I purposely keep my caseload small so that I am able to dedicate more time to you and your child during therapy and while planning for your session. I truly enjoy helping children and their families.

My experience as a speech therapist includes working in clinics, in homes and at schools. I have worked with children from toddlerhood through high school with a variety of speech and language impairments. I have worked as a bilingual English-Spanish speech therapist in the past and have a great understanding of what typical and atypical bilingual speech and language development should look like, regardless of languages spoken. I am ASHA- certified and licensed in the state of Texas. In addition, I am NLA-trained and PROMPT level 1 trained.

Services

  • Initial 20-minute phone consultation: I offer a free consultation before scheduling an evaluation to confirm that I am the right therapist for your child. I will always try to refer you to the most appropriate therapist based on your child’s needs. My ultimate goal is to help you and your child.

  • Evaluations: All evaluations will include a report detailing strengths and areas of difficulty for your child, along with a set of goals to be worked on in therapy sessions. I will also provide any referrals to other professionals at this time if needed (ex: occupational therapy, physical therapy, neuropsychology, ENT, etc). The type of evaluation will typically be determined during the initial consultation based on concerns discussed, but this could change once I meet your child.

    • Speech Sound Evaluation- I will assess your child’s speech sounds in words and during connected speech. I will examine your child’s oral motor skills and determine which sounds and/or patterns are problematic for your child.

    • Language Evaluation- I will assess receptive language (what your child understands) and expressive language (essentially, your child’s vocabulary and grammar), as well as pragmatic use of language (how well they use language to communicate).

  • Therapy: The length and frequency of therapy sessions will be determined by family and therapist. Structure of therapy sessions will depend on child’s age, personality, attention span as well as the quantity and type of goals. All therapy sessions include 5-10 minutes of parent consultation and education. I offer 45-minute and 60-minute sessions.

  • Parent Coaching: Sometimes parent coaching is the most beneficial approach to speech therapy, especially with early language learners. Sometimes parent coaching is used in combination with direct speech therapy with your child. I offer 30-, 45- and 60- minute parent coaching sessions. Typically 30-minute coaching sessions are held via tele-therapy.

    Insurance

At this time, I am out of network with all insurance plans. I am happy to provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance if you have out-of-network speech therapy benefits through your medical insurance. Payment to me is due at the time of service and reimbursement from your insurance company is not guaranteed. Every insurance is different, so please reach out to your insurance provider to inquire more about their process for these benefits.
